Europe’s First 4G Communications Network

TerreStar Global Ltd. plans to develop, build and operate an all internet protocol (IP)-based integrated satellite and terrestrial communications network to provide mobile communication services throughout Europe.

TerreStar’s unique approach would provide, for the first time ever, the possibility to meet critical communication challenges. Constant connectivity would make dropped calls a thing of the past. Resilient space-based systems can survive all conceivable disasters on the ground, making resilient, effective and interoperable disaster communications a reality. The pan-European coverage achieved from a geostationary orbit can enable high-speed, high-quality voice and internet access to all European communities, no matter how remote.

Best of all, the benefits of TerreStar’s strategy would not require special handsets. The chipset TerreStar is developing is intended to integrate into normal mobile devices such as phones, laptops and PDAs. Thus, TerreStar expects to offer brand-new revenue streams to commercial wireless providers - to whom it plans to offer wholesale services.

TerreStar’s technology offers many advantages:

      • TerreStar’s universal chipset will support mobile satellite services, GSM, UMTS and HSDPA.
      • TerreStar’s network design is IP based, making it interoperable with all digital mobile networks as well as legacy circuit switching systems. TerreStar’s service would therefore be integrated into any mobile operator’s offering.
      • TerreStar’s satellite component would be unaffected by terrestrial communications disruptions, guaranteeing communications to emergency responders even when terrestrial networks are damaged or overloaded.
